
Erasmus Policy Statement

The Philological School of Higher Education in Wrocław is a non-public institution of higher education. Its mission is to develop the students’ practical language skills on an academic level and to provide them with broad interdisciplinary knowledge.
In 2006 the State Accreditation Committee evaluated highly the quality of education and instruction in the School and granted it a positive assessment. Among the faculty members of the School there are lecturers from Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, USA, Australia, France and Great Britain.
The School has established relations with universities abroad, mostly in Europe. In coming academic years the School is planning to enlarge international co-operation. The Philological School of Higher Education offers international students a full range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of studies in English, German and Spanish.
In the context of the Lifelong Learning Programme, the School is planning to undertake actions as follows:
- to promote Students Mobility by means of frequent meetings with the students, Internet web site and brochures, in order to increase number of incoming and outgoing students within LLP;
- to initiate active Teaching Staff Mobility;
- to support administration of the School in the field of co-operation with international enterprises and training centers where students and young graduates can get professional training (within Comenius Assistantship and Leonardo da Vinci Programmes);
- to increase number of students participating in Comenius Language Assistantship;
- to start and support participation in multilateral projects and Thematic Networks;
- to improve facilities for disabled persons;
- to prepare projects for e-learning and adult education (Grundtvig).
Quality of Academic Mobility Activities:
To ensure high quality in academic mobility activities in the Philological School of Higher Education in Wroclaw, the following measures have been implemented:
- the ECTS system has been applied;
- Students and Staff Mobility is acknowledged;
- transcripts of record of the students returning from abroad are recognized;
- systems of quality control by accreditation and regular evaluation of educational system have been implemented;
- Programme Coordinator responsible for students and teachers recruitment, approving learning agreements, monitoring of outgoing students, recognition of academic transcripts of students who come back from a partner University and concluding new bilateral agreements, has been appointed;
- students and teachers exchange is supported by the International Office in the following areas: regular meetings with the Programme Coordinator are organized; information about possibilities of Students and Staff Mobility is provided; information on the curricula and study/teaching conditions at the School for incoming students/teachers is provided; the School web site includes description of courses and modules taught, School facilities and information about accommodation and living in Wroclaw; monitoring of outgoing students; submitting transcripts of record for incoming students; outgoing and incoming students are counseled by the Programme Coordinator and administrative support; organisation of integrating events for incoming students is encouraged, supported and financed from the School’s budget; support in adaptation to University life (helping incoming students to settle in); initiating a two week Polish language and culture course for incoming students before the academic year commencement.
Quality of student placement activities:
Teaching practice and students placements are obligatory for all students of the School. They constitute an important part of curricula and are included into supplements to the students’ diplomas. The Philological School of Higher Education has had experience in students placements arrangements in the frame of Leonardo da Vinci and Comenius Assistantship projects. Since 2003 about twenty students have had professional placements at foreign companies in Europe every year. Usually duration of a placement is three months.
To ensure high quality of students placement the Philological School of Higher Education in Wroclaw arranges student placements in acknowledged schools and organizations supervised by experienced members of the staff.
The School will encourage and send students to take a placement under the LLP at foreign enterprises. Placements taken abroad will be recognized by the School as part of the students’ curricula.
Host companies, schools and institutions will be found and selected by the School in cooperation with partner universities abroad, within the LEONET database, by agencies specialized in students placement arrangements abroad or by students themselves. To this end the School has already established cooperation with various institutions.
Provisional work-programme of placement will be established between a host institution and a student under the supervision of a local coordinator. Before leaving abroad, student will sign a trilateral agreement between the School, Host institution and the student himself. The LLP Programme coordinator stays in touch with students and host institutions during the whole period of placement.
Students who have already had training/placement share their experience with students who intend to take a placement abroad or in the same institution.
