The 2005/2006 academic year inauguration
The inauguration ceremony for the 2005/2006 academic year took place in the Great Hall of Wrocław’s City Hall on Oct. 2, 2005.
The host of the ceremony – His Magnificence Rector of the Philological School of Higher Education in Wrocław prof. dr hab. Zdzisław Wąsik began with greeting the eminent guests, among whom were rectors of Wrocław’s schools, representatives of the local government and education institutions. Present were also the academic staff of the college. But the most numerous group present at the ceremony were first year students, though their older colleges were also there.
The ceremony was commenced with a speech delivered by the Rector of WSF, prof. dr. hab Zdzisław Wąsik, which summarized the past academic year and also outlined future plans, those near as well as those distant. The most important achievement of WSF is that it gives our students the chance to study under such a distinguished and eminent academic staff that we are so proud to offer.
One of the most pleasant moments of the ceremony was when the Rector handed out awards and distinctions to those graduates who completed their studies with the highest grades. These were diplomas, letters of recommendation and commemorative statuettes which quickly gained the name ET (from the Latin dictum inscribed on the school’s banner: Exempla Trahunt” which means Examples attract”) Congratulations! The statuettes were designed and crafted by Wrocław’s own Małgorzata Tyc-Klekot and in their form and colours they reflect the logo of the school.
The matriculation of the academic years was without a doubt an important moment, especially in the lives of those just starting their college education. First year students took part in the honours of the ceremonial matriculation, and 10 of them, in a symbolic and ceremonial gesture, were handed the record book from the Rector of WSF.
The ceremony was closed by the rapturous applause following the inauguration lecture on „British Culture in Philological Studies” delivered by prof. dr hab. Wojciech Lipoński from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Thank you Professor!
During the ceremony we could admire the performance of Wrocław’s Puellae Cantantes choir.
As with all good things, the ceremony also had to come to an end. Ahead of us now is yet another year of hard and systematic work. We wish the students and the staff of WSF perseverance and success in the 2005/2006 academic year.
Quod felix, faustum, fortunatumque sit!
