
Admission regulations - MA program
The admission regulations for the first year of the 2007/2008 MA program in The Higher School of Philology in Wrocław
- Admission to the first year of the WSF MA program in Wrocław (WSF) in the 2007/2008 academic year, including the planned number of seats for each specialization is carried out from May 25, 2007 to September 30, 2007 by an admissions committee which is appointed by the Rector.
- Admission to the first year of the MA program in WSF is open to all students who have submitted the following documents:
- Application form for the graduate studies (available at the school or at www.wsf.edu.pl)
- A maturity certificate (original or copy); foreign secondary school certificates are to be submitted with a nostrification or legalization with a sworn translation,
- Copy of a diploma certifying completion of higher education (certified by WSF) in philology of a given specialization or applied linguistics,
- Copy of a supplement appended to the diploma (part B of the diploma) or a copy of the original (certified by WSF), if the diploma was issued after January 1, 2005,
- A valid medical certificate confirming no contraindication for the prospective student to undertake studies and, in case of the teaching specialization, no contraindications for undertaking the teaching specialization,
- Four photographs in accordance with the requirements proper to ID cards (dowód osobisty) (35x45 mm, color or black and white, presenting the person with no headwear, no sunglasses, the face should be evenly illuminated, slightly turned left so that the left ear is fully visible,
- Copy of the candidate’s ID card (pages with photograph, number of the ID card, place of residence).
- First year of the MA program of both English and German philology is open to candidates who, according to the order of submitted applications:
- have obtained their BA degree in WSF, or
- have received at least a 4.0 on their BA diploma, or
- have received a positive assessment in their selection interview, or
- are employed as teachers of the language of study, or
- have passed the entrance exams to an MA program of another school in philology or applied linguistics, or
- have received a diploma from a foreign university, where the language of study is their specialization language.
- Candidates applying to the first year of studies as mentioned in point 3 of the admissions regulations are notified in writing about the decision of the admission committee within 14 days after the all the documents are submitted or after the results of the selection interview have been announced.
- The selection interview is conducted in the language of studies and concerns the candidate’s research and/or project for the MA thesis and/or the BA thesis and their motivation to undertake further studies.
- Procedure of the selection interview:
- Candidates approach the selection interview individually, according to the order established by the school,
- Upon entering the room of the selection interview, the candidate’s identity is confirmed on the basis of an id card,
- After taking his or her place, the candidate receives an identity number and at least two questions to answer,
- The candidates will be assessed on their factual knowledge of the subject and their language skills, also, if the commission decides, knowledge of the primary sources of the subject,
- The duration of the exam for each candidate is set by the WSF admission committee,
- The committee has the right to interrupt the candidate at any time in order to ask another question or to conclude the interview,
- The candidate does not ask the committee any questions,
- After the interview, the candidate leaves the exam room.
- The committee fills out the protocols with the results of the selection interview and decides on admission to the MA program.
- The list of people who qualified to the first year of the MA program on the basis of the selection interview is announced by the committee the next work day after the exam date no later than 4:00pm by means of posting the identification numbers of the candidates along with the decision on the school’s webpage www.wsf.edu.pl as well as on the information board in WSF.
- Upon the candidate’s written request addressed to the head of the committee, information about the result of the selection interview can be disclosed to the candidate at a time designated by either the head of the committee or by his/her proxy. The candidate’s request can be submitted no later than three working days after the selection interview.
- Candidates have the right to appeal the admission committee’s decision to the rector within 14 days after the day of:
- receiving notification mentioned in point 4, or
- publishing the list of those qualified for the first year of the studies in accordance with point 8 of the regulation.
- The rector makes a decision concerning the appeal within 14 days after it has been submitted. The rector’s decision is final.
- Admission of candidates who have qualified for the first year of the MA program in the Higher School of Philology is contingent on their fulfilling the following requirements:
- signing the agreement for the period of studies and submitting it (either personally or by mail) to the WSF building no later than 14 days after either having received notice or after the list of people who qualified for the first year of studies has been posted,
- paying the entrance fee within the same time period as in point 12a.
- The Higher School of Philology retains the right to admit candidates in the order of their fulfilling all the formal conditions as stated in point 12.
- The Higher School of Philology does not guarantee a seat for candidates who have qualified for the first year of the MA program but have failed to fulfill in time all the requirement mentioned in point 12.
- The admission regulation for the MA program for the 2007/2008 academic year will go into effect on May 25, 2007
- The selection interview will take place in the WSF building in Wrocław on the dates listed bellow. The candidates can choose the date of their interview.
