From 10th to 28th October 2016 a group of five students of our university participated in the teacher training in a partner kindergarten Chongqing Dear Child Kindergarten. The first edition of the three-week training was organized in the framework of a cooperation agreement concluded on 7 th April 2016 between the Philological School of Higher Education in Wroclaw and the Chongqing Dear Child Kindergarten. The cooperation was established thanks to an initiative of Kindergarten’s employee, who is a WSF graduate - Mr. Tomasz Solak. The Kindergarten was founded in 2010. Currently nearly 300 children aged 2.5 to 6 attend the Kindergarten.
During the three-week teacher training, students observed the daily life of preschoolers in China, took part in various games and activities organized at the Kindergarten and held English classes for children in different age groups. Through fulfilling care and education duties, learning and playing with the children, students had a chance not only to acquire and develop pedagogical and didactic skills, but also to discover the Chinese culture, customs and language. Close cooperation with the Coordinator of Teacher Training, carers and English teachers at the Kindergarten led to a better understanding of the preschool system of education in China and gave our students a unique opportunity to evaluate their own skills and competence.
Students also had an opportunity to carry out outdoor physical activities combined with English lesson in Chongqing Dear Child Forest Kindergarten, located in a picturesque place among the hills and rice fields. Chongqing Dear Child Forest Kindergarten is an educational institution, whose mission is to educate in the natural environment, to develop children’s environmental awareness and to awaken kids’ imagination and desire to explore the world.
During the last week of teacher training, students visited the Experimental Kindergarten of Southwest University. Observations, meetings and discussions with the staff of the kindergarten was another very important element of professional teacher training, which our students could accomplish in China thanks to the cooperation with the Chongqing Dear Child Kindergarten.
On the last day of stay, WSF students organized a Polish Culture Day for the children and Kindergarten’s staff. Trainees taught the children to dance a Polish traditional dance – Polonaise, and played on of the most famous Polish cartoons "Bolek and Lolek discover Poland".
The training at the Kindergarten was accompanied by an extensive cultural program and sightseeing. Students had the opportunity to get to know and explore Chongqing, the city lying in central China, at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers. Chongqing now has over 30 million inhabitants. The city is famous for its interesting location among the hills, high temperatures and very hot cuisine...
Additionally, students visited such places and tourist attractions as the Fengdu Ghost City, the city of Chengdu and the Dazu Rock Carvings listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.
