The MA program in German Philology last two years, i.e. four semesters. On completion you will be awarded an MA degree in German Philology.

You can choose either specialization:

  • Teaching German as a Foreign Language
  • General

and additionally pick a unique option: Professional Translation which will enable you to deal with specialist texts (e.g. in law, economics, arts or medicine).

MA graduates are well versed in all aspects of the Humanities and have vast knowledge of literature, culture and the history of German-speaking countries, a high competence of German (C2 level according to European System of Language Education Description - CEFR) as well as sound knowledge of linguistics.

Knowledge and skills acquired during the MA studies will allow the graduate to work in the following areas:

  • teaching German (Teaching German as a Foreign Language specialization must be completed)
  • translations, public translations or certified translations (after having passed necessary exams)
  • publishing and mass-media
  • international business
  • local and EU administration
  • cultural institutions
  • higher education and research facilities
  • service sectors requiring advanced knowledge of German (e.g. in the tourist industry).

Graduates of the MA program at WSF can also continue their education at a doctoral level at a chosen university.
